Product Description

Feed birds, not squirrels, with the Squirrel-X Double Suet Cage Squirrel-Proof Bird Feeder! This innovative caged feeder allows smaller songbirds to easily access high-energy suet cakes inside while stopping gray squirrels right in their tracks. The rugged metal cage construction also deters larger "bully" birds, ensuring that your favorite songbirds have ample access to the energy-rich suet they need. Featured as the best suet feeder in 2021 by Business Insider and ranked #3 squirrel-proof bird feeder by Birds & Blooms magazine, this feeder has earned its reputation among serious birders.

The pecan-colored durable steel lid helps keep suet cakes dry during rain and snow, while the powder-coated steel cage in a weather-resistant black finish protects birds from predators while they feed. With a generous 2 suet cake capacity and included aluminum hanger, the Double Suet Cage Feeder represents the ultimate in squirrel-resistant suet feeding and your best defense against persistent squirrels that raid traditional feeders.

Ideal For

Perfect for yards with persistent squirrel problems where traditional suet feeders are emptied in hours. Excellent for attracting woodpeckers (Downy, Hairy, Red-bellied, Pileated), nuthatches (White-breasted, Red-breasted), chickadees (Black-capped, Carolina), tufted titmice, brown creepers, and wrens. Ideal for bird enthusiasts who want to save money on suet by preventing squirrel theft. Great for areas with large nuisance birds that monopolize feeders. Essential for serious birders who want to attract small, desirable songbirds exclusively.

Feeding Instructions

Fill with two standard 4.5" x 4.5" suet cakes (cakes sold separately). Pro tip: Leave suet in its plastic case after removing wrapper/label - this makes suet last longer and provides additional barrier against larger nuisance birds like grackles and starlings. Unscrew the pecan-colored lid by turning the aluminum hanger mechanism, insert suet cakes into the two internal cages, and secure lid.

Key to success: Proper placement is critical for maintaining squirrel-proof effectiveness. Hang feeder at least 10-12 feet away from trees, fences, railings, or other launching points. Place 5-6 feet above ground. Use a baffle on the pole for additional protection if needed. Clean cage monthly by removing suet remnants and wiping down with hot soapy water. Refill when suet is consumed or every 2-3 weeks in hot weather to maintain freshness.

Why We Love It

The Squirrel-X line by More Birds has revolutionized backyard bird feeding by actually delivering on the promise of keeping squirrels out while allowing desired birds full access. Award recognition from respected publications like Business Insider and Birds & Blooms confirms what thousands of backyard birders have discovered - this feeder works. The dual suet capacity means less frequent refilling while the cage design ensures your suet investment feeds birds, not squirrels.

Care & Maintenance

Clean feeder monthly or when switching to fresh suet cakes. Unscrew the top by turning the aluminum hanger mechanism counterclockwise. Remove any remaining suet pieces. Wipe down interior cages with hot soapy water using a cloth or sponge. Scrub exterior cage if debris has accumulated. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry before refilling. Inspect hanger mechanism periodically and tighten if loose to prevent squirrels from unscrewing the top through persistence (some clever squirrels have learned to spin the feeder to unscrew the lid - combat this by using a shepherd's hook with a spiral design).
